Evaluation Of Final Piece.

During the creation of my final piece, I went through a lot of ups and downs, getting very frustrated and mind mapping various ideas.  I made my creation by mind mapping various ideas, using different materials and practicing with them to achieve my final outcome. In my final piece I have created a very different version of Alice In Wonderland and by very different, I will talk you through this crazy idea.

Instead of using the characters such as the Rabbit and Alice, I decided to use Jack Skellington to replace Alice and a frog to replace the rabbit. I love the oddness of the original story and how it ignites such a strong sense of imagination and imagery and in mine I wanted to create the same type of twisted imagery but with a little twist of my own, hence why I decided to use different characters. I used one particular shot in my animation which was a long shot, this happens when Jack Skellington is pictured behind the toad stools whilst the frogs are heading toward him. I chose that particular shot as a long shot to show how Jack Skellington is twisting the minds of the frogs and he is reeling them in. The long shot also establishes how strange Wonderland truly can be and how it is entirely different from the real world in which we all feel is reality. Or is it?

I created my frog characters by using Plasticine and I used an actual figurine of Jack Skellington. My set was created using two separate cardboard boxes, I created the sky by scrunching tissue paper up and sticking it with glue to the wall of the box and I used toad stools by creating them with various colors of Plasticine  I decided to use these characters instead of the originals because it was my own interpretation of the animation and I didn't want it to be the same old boring characters which everybody knows, I wanted to create something fresh and new to animation. The sets I created were slightly different to that of how I imagined creating them but in all honesty, the time given to me would not have been enough to create the sets that I would have liked to have made, it would have taken a lot of time and effort and very artistic quality's to create, which in my opinion I just don't have the time and patience for, although I would love to have.

During the creation of my entire animation I used quite a few different materials. These materials includes such mediums as paint, tissue paper, Plasticine  fabric, cardboard boxes and to create an even better effect to my animation I used narration from Tim Burton's version of Alice In Wonderland and the theme tune from the film "American Psycho." The idea to use the narration and music really helped a lot and went well with the animation, it gives it that little bit more of an effect, the Plasticine also worked very well and made me feel that little bit more proud because I had also created it.  Without a camera, a computer and Adobe Premiere and Photoshop, this entire animation would not have been possible, this definitely makes me happy to be alive in 2012!

A few things went wrong whilst creating. For once, the characters I made were definitely not up to my standards, if I had put more time and effort into creating them then I'm sure they would have turned out a lot better than what they did but nonetheless I still managed to create my animation the way I had intended and decided that I didn't have the time to start all over again so just dealt with what I had and tried my best to make it work. I've learned various skills during this project, such as being able to create objects using Plasticine which I had not tried/worked with before, incorporating narration and music to add to my animation and the ability to feel comfortable working with Adobe Premiere.

During my animation I had fallen very sick with the flu and had difficulty completing my task but with hard work and dedication I managed to overcome it and complete my animation. I am somewhat happy with my outcome of my final piece although I feel that I could have spent a lot more time and put a lot more effort into it, but nonetheless I worked with what I had and tried my best and in my opinion I think it turned out okay in the end. Given the opportunity again I would have spent a lot more of my time planning and mind mapping my ideas to have created a better outcome. Certain techniques I had used within the programmes used were the ability to create an animation combining audio using Adobe Premiere and using the "Batch" technique in Photoshop to change the sizes of all the pictures to the right size altogether so I could edit them in Premiere.

I could have improved on the length of the individual photos once they had been edited together so that the animation wasn't so long. Decisions that I had made and were poorly executed was my idea to use Plasticine.  I didn't feel that the Plasticine characters and set worked very well and upon using the Plasticine  I could have spent more time on them adding more detail to make them look more realistic. There was definitely not enough planning done, there was an okay amount of planning but I definitely could have spent more time throughout the entire animation to have created a better outcome. I also could have used a tripod to make my animation better, the fact that I didn't use a tripod made my animation very jiddery and uneven, given the chance again I would definitely spend more time on it and use a tripod!
