Critique Of Voodoo People.

"Voodoo People."

The Prodigy are an electronic English dance music group formed by Liam Howlett, in 1990 in Essex. Along with Fatboy Slim, the Chemical Brothers, and other acts, The Prodigy have been credited as pioneers of the big beat genre, which achieved mainstream popularity in the 1990's. The group's music ranges from a mixture of rave, hardcore, techno, industrial and break beat to big beat and electronic rock with punk.

"Voodoo People" is a song created by The Prodigy released as their eighth single on 12th September, 1994. The whole concept of this particular music video is just crazy and no doubt awesome. It involved members of The Prodigy and other various people racing and chasing each other blindfolded and handcuffed. The spoken parts heard throughout this music video such as "The voodoo, who do what you don't dare people" are taken from "The Shalimar," written and performed by Gylan Kain one of the Last Poets. The main riff heard throughout the song is based on a sample of the song "Very Ape" by Nirvana from their third studio album, "In Utero."

The continuity is very effective in this particular music video. Specific scenes pictured throughout this video create tension by what the people are doing such as being blindfolded, handcuffed and running to achieve a particular goal at the end. The beats in the music also create tension as you can feel and hear that they are building up to something, in this particular case,  We created tension in our music video "The Journey" by doing something similar but with a little twist. Although blindfolded and gagged in our video, we also put the actor in a cupboard as if they were locked in it and could not get out. Upon getting out of the room, the music really helped to create tension as they were running down the stairs building up to the fact that they were going to get beaten up all along.

In The Prodigy's "Voodoo People," I also think that the concept of running and racing each other whilst blindfolded and gagged is all about taking risks, to achieve and win something we could all go down the route of doing practically anything, even dangerous to get what we want, and this is great for the viewers as they can understand the true meaning behind the video and not just what is pictured on the screen. Some scenes throughout are actually a little gory and horrific, people smashing into pillars and cars and falling over whilst being badly hurt, The Prodigy is humored by this and appears to video them, a little cruel, huh? But an awesome twist to the video. One particular part in this video that I really find incredible is where there are just a few of them left running across the road, the music breaks, and somehow nobody manages to be run over by any cars! I found this pretty awesome, especially when the music kicks back in. All of this madness to achieve and get hold of one thing...money, the route of all evil.
